Today’s rain, hail, and freezing winds aren’t stopping our teams from harvesting soil core samples!
They’re busy collecting 60 sterile soil cores from different paddocks at Lincoln University’s Ashley Dene Farm in Canterbury, and racing them back to our lab where they’re being quickly processed and frozen in liquid nitrogen for future DNA analysis. Scientists are looking at establishing whether/what linkages exist between soil, plant and animal microbiomes in NZ dairy pastures and how these linkages are affected by nitrogen load.
